                  WASSW Mission
The mission of WASSW is to promote and develop the practice of School Social Work

                  Goal
To increase visibility, security and understanding of School Social Worker positions

In the past year WASSW has worked hard to increase our visibility on the State and local levels. A strategic plan was developed and implemented by hiring an Executive Director who was charged with developing an implementing a Marketing Plan for WASSW and the profession of School Social Work in Washington State. The plan includes strategies for increasing our influence on the State level, increasing membership and increasing school social work positions.

Several promotional flyers were created which can be downloaded from the Members Only page. These flyers were intended to help administrators, legislators, and the community to understand the value of School Social Work.

Letters have been sent to school related state associations (administrators, school boards, WEA, PTAs, etc.) with requests to meet and discuss how school social work offers value added services and the importance of increasing SSW positions. Letters were also sent to designated school district human resources departments clarifying information about school social work and the positions we are qualified to hold.

WASSW is now represented at OSPI, on the Building Bridges - Dropout Reduction committee as charged by last years dropout legislation. This committee has made recommendations to the Quality Education Committee (QEC) which has direct accountability to the legislature. The recommendations can be found on the OSPI web page. Each of the Educational Service Districts has and will be participating in a vetting process of these recommendations. A school social worker was identified and assigned to participate in this process. The Building Bridges Committee's work culminated in holding a state wide Dropout Reduction Summit where WASSW was represented.

WASSW also had direct input on the Basic Education Act funding allocation recommendations for student support professionals which has also gone to the QEC for their consideration.
